The Durban Holocaust & Genocide Centre will be hosting an educators workshop for the 25th anniversary of Schindler’s List. The workshop will be conducted by Roy Hellenberg of FutureProof Schools and in partnership with Facing History and Ourselves.

How can we apply the lessons of the film, Schindler’s List toward standing up to hatred in our own communities? How do you engage students in conversations around racism, antisemitism and other forms of hatred?

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Schindler’s List, Universal Pictures has re-released the film internationally for a limited theatrical engagement. To accompany this re-release Facing History and Ourselves have developed a new digital resource for teachers to use as a guide when using the film in the classroom. Join Shikaya, Facing History and the Holocaust and Genocide
Centres in South Africa for a viewing of the film and an interactive workshop on using the new digital resource for teachers. Some highlights include:

  • Reflections from Schindler’s list survivor Rena Finder.
  • Effective strategies to prepare students to be thoughtful, emotionally engaged viewers of the film.
  • Resources to provide historical context.
  • Lesson ideas to connect this historical moment to contemporary events.
