Our Archive

In recent years, the DHGC has created its own archive. Learning from our sister centres in Cape Town and Johannesburg, we have sorted, catalogued, and carefully stored hundreds of items that have been donated by Durban families. Our goal is twofold: to preserve precious history and to research the context of the artifacts in order to empower our education programmes. Archives provide the factual foundation for the stories we tell.

“Without archives many stories of real people would be lost, and along with those stories, vital clues that allow us to reflect and interpret our lives today.” – Sara Sherida

We are collaborating with the JHGC to produce #ArchiveFriday clips, profiling something from archives for the general public to learn about.
