“A world-class institution which plays a vital role in informing and sensitising the youth of Durban. Its size belies its impact.”

Rob Holding, Principal of Kloof High School

OUTREACH  PROGRAMME

This project aims to connect many more learners annually with the DHGC’s education workshops. We understand the particular challenges faced by schools to take learners on off-campus excursions. This outreach project hopes to bridge that gap by bringing the essence of our work to your school campus.

The outreach programme is designed to peak learners’ curiosity. It make use of storytelling, artefacts, Q&A and an AI platform.

To arrange a programme please contact Claudia on 031 368 6833 or claudia@dbnholocaust.co.za

“My experience today has inspired me to make changes in my life. It has inspired me to start reading more about what’s happening all around the world and educate myself on the different topics that were discussed today.”

– Grade 9 Learner, Kloof High School

HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMMES

We host school groups throughout the year to our Centre. Our programmes apply the history of the Holocaust to help young people think critically about contemporary society. We welcome groups of any grade, however, as the Holocaust forms part of the National Curriculum in grades nine and eleven we have specialized programmes for these learners. We are also able to create programmes tailored to specific learner issues i.e. bullying.

Our programmes are designed to teach learners to think critically, to consider the choices they make and to conscientize them to the dangers of indifference, apathy, prejudice and racism. We seek to inspire learners to promote tolerance, human rights and the value of life.

This programme has special focus on the rise of Nazism in support of the CAPS requirements. The programme is 3,5hrs and includes a tour of the DHGC’s permanent exhibition.

“I loved the idea of restoring Anne’s room just as it was in the Secret Annex. It is very important that pupils and the coming generations learn about the Holocaust and so it will never happen again.”
