Statement on the San Diego County Synagogue Shooting
The South African Holocaust & Genocide Foundation is shocked as yet another hate crime has been committed against a religious community, this time at the Chabad Synagogue in San Diego County, California, USA. This heinous act took place during the Sabbath and Pesach morning services exactly six months after the shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, USA, just over a month since the attacks on two mosques in New Zealand, and six days after the massacres in Sri Lanka.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families and community of the victims. All congregations, no matter their faith, should be able to worship in safety.
The SAHGF is dedicated to helping to transform society by teaching about the consequences of prejudice, racism, antisemitism, homophobia and xenophobia, as well as the dangers of indifference, apathy, and silence to freedom and democracy.
