On this day in 1956, 20 000 women of all races marched in unity to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to hand over letters of protest against the carrying of pass books by women. #WomensDay2020 is a time to recognize and celebrate the role of women in South Africa’s journey to freedom, while committing ourselves to continue to work towards equality for all.
